Sublunar Minds is NYC’s favorite original indie funk party band. For nearly a decade, Sublunar Minds has been a fixture in the NYC scene, thrilling hipsters, locals, and visitors alike with their original brand of funk rock. From Harlem funk clubs to Brooklyn indie rock joints, wherever people need a beat to groove to and a song to sing along with, Sublunar Minds is there to thrill and entertain.
Formed in 2006 by songwriter/guitarisomposer and serial entrepreneur Ben Cockerham, the band’s music combines Talking Heads-style funky grooves with sprechstimme, jazzy horns, a touch of Americana, and lyrics that draw on everything from The Naked Gun to Umberto Eco. He is joined by Frank Vigilante on harmonica and trumpet, Damian Peters on bass, Sebastiano Agostini on drums, and super-sax-sideman Dave Steinberg for a fresh and funky lineup.
Sublunar Minds’ first album, Get Hit In Your Soul, was released in 2009 and featured the college radio staples “Dumber Than A Box Of Rocks” and “Let The Good Times Roll.” A second studio album, The Last Of The Natural Light, was released in 2012 and featured the CMJ radio favorite “No Traffic At Midnight.”
In 2015, Sublunar Minds released its third studio album Now We Ascend and toured the east coast in support. Now We Ascend pairs the group’s avant-funk with the multi-platinum producers behind classic Gladys Knight and Patti Smith, and features the Americana-tinged Returning To The Earth and the neo-Motown Leaving Not Believing.
